We learn by our mistakes. What is a mistake anyway? All it means is that the painting isn’t doing what we wish it to do. Now, painting in the unknown is an entirely different thing – an in the moment experience.
Some of the paintings that I have done, that people love, have something underneath them that I didn’t wish to keep there, so I painted over – the extra layers create a rich texture and add depth. In the process, I will have learnt something about how the paints move, what they will and will not do. This is what happened with the painting above.
