Why would someone do that you may ask?  Why not – it produces the most effective results and each medium has its individual gifts so used together create a double whammy!  Acrylics have a dynamic and wide range of colour and oils do too, but they have a certain glow to them which encourages the painted image to stand out and shine.

Quite often I will use acrylic as a background and then touch up with oils.  Equally, I have also produced artwork where I layer and layer constantly until the result “feels right”.  Obviously, to do this one waits for each layer to dry in between which in the case of oils can sometimes be a couple of weeks in the cooler months.  It’s worth it though.  Why not give it a go?  After all, life is a voyage of discovery and you may find out something new
