Enjoyable & Fun Painting Classes:

Do you wish to access the creativity that you just know is there, but don’t quite know how to let it out?  You’re not sure where to start or you may feel you can’t paint at all, then these painting classes are ideal for you because I believe everyone can paint – you just need to be shown a way that is right for you.  Even if you have never painted before, you can get exciting results immediately. Instruction will allow you to build up your own painting with confidence whilst leaving you, the artist, free to bring forth your own unique style.

Of course, these classes are also ideal for those wishing to improve on existing painting skills and learn new techniques all with the aim of discovering new ideas and freeing your inner artist.

We predominantly use wet-on-wet oils as it is such an easy medium to use, achieving excellent effects and I also include acrylics, moulding pastes and gessos into the mix to add additional textures, depths and colour.

The aim is to provide a supportive environment, where people feel relaxed and comfortable, leaving you room to have fun and the freedom to paint as you wish.

Classes include all materials, ie canvas, brushes, paints, palette and easel, not forgetting an apron!

Accommodation

Abingworth Hall

Storrington Road

Thakeham, West Sussex

RH20 3EF

Our venue is a privately owned house belonging to HF Holidays and for that reason, we will be joined by other guests who are there on walking or discovery holidays.  Our accommodation is large enough to find a quiet spot to read, if you wish, as well as the opportunity to meet and interact with new people.  As you know, at times, I demonstrate and run courses for HF Holidays and I find the people heart-warming.  The ethos and welcoming atmosphere of guests and staff alike make for a wonderful social event and holiday.

Tucked away in the village of Thakeham at the foot of the South Downs, Abingworth Hall has stood in one form or another since the 13th century.  Gutted by fire, it was rebuilt in 1910 in its current distinctive style.  As well as 27 ensuite rooms, the house has all the ingredients you need for the perfect country house stay: three comfortable lounges with squishy sofas to kick back in, the largest of which opens onto an attractive conservatory and bar or spend time in the drawing room with it’s wood-panelled walls, log burner, library of books and comfy seats.  In addition, there’s a telescope for you to scour the night sky too.

Surrounded by fields and beautiful landscapes, there are views from the back of the property once one has climbed up the back garden to the ridge at the top.  The garden is extensive, wild and attractive, especially in the Spring months.  There are places to sit and relax with a pond complete with ducks!  There is also a patio area to enjoy a drink or eat our lunch on the painting days.

All rooms are ensuite and contain tea/coffee making facilities and a TV together with free Wi-Fi.  The bathrooms are equipped with toiletries and hairdryer.  Bed linen and personal towels are all provided.

(Smoking is not permitted in the house).

Meals

Pricing includes continental/cooked breakfast, packed lunch and a 3 course evening meal each day. Complimentary tea and coffee is available throughout the painting days on site.  Each day, there will be a comprehensive menu displayed in reception with a wide selection of meals for the dinner.  Simply make your choice and place next to your room number on the sheet displayed.  The same applies to your packed lunch.  You will be shown where to write your choice of sandwich and type of bread and then this will be collected by you the next morning when you choose from an abundant display of fruit, nibbles/snacks, cheeses, etc, to add into the mix.

Food at Abingworth Hall is varied and tasty and has a strong emphasis on ingredients from the area and seasonal produce. Once a week, the dining room hosts a Local Food Night when, over a sociable evening, you might try a five-course feast of local Sussex flavours. All menu choices offer a vegetarian option.

In addition, Abingworth Hall has a bar from which you can order an array of beverages including bottles of wine.

Remember, on arrival, at approx. 15.30, there will be a welcome afternoon tea available (to be confirmed).

Breakfast will be available between approx. 07.30 and 09.00.  Lunch will be approx 12.30 with Dinner at 19.15.

Dietary requirements are catered for.
