Framing is such a personal and individual thing.  For me, the mount and frame acts as a palette almost for the colours being depicted – it’s the foundation. As my artwork is always colourful and bright, I tend to use a white background, whereas some artists steer towards using black.  However, it is also possible to pick out one colour that is already in the painting.  Alternatively, one can pick out a colour that is the opposite of those already in their painting.  It really is worth taking one’s artwork to a good framers and trying a number of ideas so that the unexpected can happen.
